Because I Am Bored....

MeMe

  1. When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought? Eh... it's good enough for Athens

  2. When is the next time you will have sex? I am single, so I have no way of answering this question. I suppose if I wanted to, I could get laid tonight, as college boys are easy, but that's not my style.

  3. What’s a word that rhymes with “DOOR”? Poop! Not really, but it has the double o's, so it was the first thing that came to mind.

  4. Favorite planet? I know it's not a planet, but thanks to Kurt Vonnegut and a high school astronomy class, I'm a big fan of the moon

  5. Who is the 4th person on your missed call list on your mobile? Just some boy.

  6. What shirt are you wearing? My favorite thrift store find ever... it has a fish holding a tackle box and fishing pole in one hand and dangling a stoner upside down in his other. He is saying, "Let's keep our kids hooked on fishing, not on drugs!" Because it makes perfect sense for a fish to encourage children to fish.

  7. Name the brand of shoes you’re currently wearing? Birkenstock

  8. Bright or Dark Room? I like a number of lamps placed strategically around the room... enough light to see, but nothing too harsh. Oh, but if I'm sleeping, definitely dark.

  9. What were you doing at midnight last night? Smoking a bowl and playing with teh puppy.

  10. What did your last text message you received on your mobile say? "Hurry"

  11. Where is your letter box? Who says I have one? Just kidding... of course I do... it's in my room.

  12. What’s a word that you say a lot? Ummm... like Om

  13. Who told you he/she loved you last? my sister (okay, that's kind of sad)

  14. Last furry thing you touched? The puppy!

  15. How many drugs have you done in the last three days? define drugs...

  16. How many rolls of film do you need to get developed? If it's undeveloped, it has been lost for years. I usually get rolls developed as I'm finished with them. And now I have a digital camera, so that's not really an issue na
  17. Favorite age you have been so far? I'm guessing three and four were probably pretty fun, but I can't really remember them. I have a couple ages I hated (12, 17), but all the others are pretty evenly tied. 22's going pretty well.

  18. Your worst enemy?I was never really the enemy type. If I like someone, that's cool and if I don't I tend to just not hang out with them so much. Unfortunately, I am now living with someone who I hate and there is NO avoiding her because everyone hates her and so she has no friends and so she has nothing to do but annoy the CRAP out of me and my other roommates. Seriously, as one girl said, Crazy sucks the life out of absolutely every situation she is in. Because on top of being bat shit (in a bad way), she is also an idiot.

  19. What is your current desktop picture? The cutest picture ever of the puppy.

  20. What was the last thing you said to someone? I said "hello" to my crazy roommate when she walked in the door. And then I immediately turned to the puppy so that I wouldn't have to continue talking to my crazy roommate.

  21. If you had to choose between a million dollars, able to fly, which would you choose? The ability to fly, easily. I wouldn't need any money if I could fly...

  22. Do you like someone? Eh... it comes and goes.

  23. The last song you listened to? "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" by Prince (obviously he was singing about me.....)

  24. If the last person you spoke to was getting shot at, would you jump in front of the bullet? Haha... fuck no. Chances are, the person shooting her would have a pretty good excuse - it might even be me or someone I know. Either way, the world would be better off without her (my one roommate is counting on Natural Selection to get rid of her for us).

  25. If you could punch 1 person in the face who’s in your life right now, who would it be? I am not a violent person at ALL, but my crazy roommate has created more feelings of violent rage in me than I knew was possible.

  26. What is the closest object to your left foot? it's on the ground next to the coffee table

The New Year

1) Was 2005 a good year for you?
2005 was a pretty good year for me. There was nothing particularly great about it, but there was nothing bad either, and so I can't really complain.

2) What was your favorite moment of the year?
Spending 6 weeks living in New York City kicked ass. I know that's not really one moment, but it was so amazing that nothing else even comes to mind as being any better. I suppose if I had to narrow it down, I would pick any moments spent at The Strand, any dinner spent at Panna II or the afternoon Elke and I watched Irish dancing in Union Square.

3) What was your least favorite moment of the year?
At the end of winter quarter (so March-ish), I had 8 papers due in one week, four of which were due on that Thursday. Wednesday night, with two papers left to finish, my brain snapped and I completely forgot how to read. Words and letters just ceased to make sense. It was terrifying. I ran into the living room, tears streaming down my cheek and started sputtering, panicked and utterly incoherent, to my roommate. She took one look at me and said, "You look like you need to smoke a bowl." Problem solved.

4) Where were you when 2005 began?
At the Union in Athens, Ohio.

5) Who were you with?
I was with Kewpie Doll and a couple of his friends, as none of mine were back in town yet. I also ran into one of the women from Stitch and Bitch. The greatest part of the evening was when we (as in everyone in the entire bar) missed midnight, and so we had to have our own countdown a couple of minutes late... damn bar time.

6) Where were you when 2005 ended?
The end of 2005 had some odd timing. Everyone I knew in Cincinnati had left to go back to school, but no one I knew in Athens was back yet, so Sister Friend and I ended up going to a party Little Sister's friends were having. It was even worse than I thought it would be.

7) Who were you with when 2005 ended?
I was with Sister Friend, Little Sister and some of her friends, which included some boy who fought in Iraq and was WAAAAY too happy about the fact that he had killed another human being. This, of course, was the one who was hitting on me.

8) Did you keep your New Year's resolution of 2005?
I'm not so much the resolution type.

9) Do you have a New Year's resolution for 2006?
Eh... I'd like to get into law school, but that's not a New Year's resolution so much as the next step in my life (hopefully).

10) Did you fall in love in 2005?
I suppose, but not in the way one might think.

11) If yes, with whom?
I fell madly in love with a puppy, which is why I didn't get him... I know I'm not ready to be a mom yet. Most importantly, I fell in love with my life. Maybe not in love, but I just reached a very zen point. I think it's all the knitting. Oh yes, and I also found a fabulous bed monkey.

12) If yes, do they know?
I firmly believe that despite the small amount of time we spent together (5 minutes), the puppy knew I loved him and he loved me back. He started crying when I left... it was the saddest thing I've ever heard and it haunts my dreams.

13) Are you still in love with them?
Love never goes away, even if you want it to.

<>14) Do you regret it?
No regrets! It's later than we think!

15) Did you breakup with anyone in 2005?
Yep. My Kewpie Doll became Not My Kewpie Doll.

16) Did you make any new friends in 2005?
Yes!

17) Who are your favorite new friends?
Umm... Rico and Cosmo Kitty and this other girl who I can't think of a clever name for right now.

18) What was your favorite month of 2005?
August, when I lived in New York! But I will admit that December was pretty fucking sweet as well... No job, no classes... I just hung out in Athens and did nothing and it was everything I wanted it to be and more.

19) Did you travel outside of the US in 2005?
Nope.... Sadly, I never have.

20) How many different states did you travel to in 2005?
Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia...

21) Did you lose anybody close to you in 2005?
No.

22) Did you miss anybody in the past year?
I really hate missing people... I think that is a waste of the people around me. However, I did miss Sister Friend this summer when we were on the outs and I have dreams about my grandparents' house (but not my grandparents) about once a week. In fact.. I just made a resolution to get back to their house this year.

23) What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2005?
Oooh.. I saw lots of good movies this year. I am obsessed with Eternal Sunshine, which was new to me in 2005, but I think my favorite movie that came out this year was probably Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I know.... I'm a dork.

24) What was your favorite song from 2005?
I've discovered a lot of new music recently thanks to my iPod. I really like "Ballerina" by Leona Naess, "Ashes" by Ben Harper and "The Littlest Birds" by The Be Good Tanyas.

25) What was your favorite record from 2005?
I'm a really big fan of Fiona Apple's new album. I always just kind of liked her before, but now I love her.

26) Did you see any concerts this year?
Umm... let me think. I saw Mountain Stage with Alison Krauss and Union Station and the Jerry Douglas Band in Athens this fall. That was pretty sweet. The rest were just bar bands and stuff.

27) Did you have a favorite concert in 2005?
Mountain Stage, for sure.

28) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2005?
Much more in the first half than in the second, when I started to become more of a freak about money. Not having anything better to do ceased to be a good enough reason to get drunk.

29) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2005?
I did a healthy amount, but nothing too crazy. I smoked a little pot and dabbled in the harder stuff, but like I said, nothing too intense.

30) Did you hope for something you didn't get in 2005?
I really wanted an embroidery kit, which I think means I'm at least 85.

<>31) Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
I think regret and shame kind of go hand in hand... Shame is just how you feel about doing something you regret, so I really try not to let those things bother me. I think I may have gossiped a bit much about Crazy, and I'm really hoping it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass.

32) What was the biggest lie you told in 2005?
The number of internships I applied for. Let's just leave it at that.

33) What was the worst lie someone told you?
There's no way to really know that for sure.

34) Did you treat somebody badly in 2005?
No one who didn't deserve it.

35) Did somebody treat you badly in 2005?
Oh yeah. The good news is I don't really care so much anymore and he still feels really guilty about it. But I guess it was all for the best.

36) How much money did you spend in 2005?
You don't want to ask this question because I could probably answer this down to the penny because I'm a freak and keep track of my spending that closely. I spent more than I have in previous years because of New York, where I probably spent close to $2,500 in six weeks and I didn't even have to pay rent or any bills.

37) What was your proudest moment of 2005?
Sadly, I don't think I've accomplished much this year. I had a few proud moments when my Pulitzer Prize winning columnist of a guest professor complimented my work in front of my Column Writing class multiple times. He also mentioned me in one of his columns and I got an A in the class. That's pretty sweet, I think.

38) What was your most embarrassing moment of 2005?
I am constantly embarrassing myself, but nothing too bad. I'll fall down and run into things, but I always get back up and brush myself off and that's that. And I'm sure I did or said some stupid things when I was drunk, but I think it's more embarrassing to not have those stories to tell.

39) If you could go back in time to any moment of 2005 and change something, what would it be?
Man... you guys just want me to admit that I regret something, and I just don't allow myself to do that. I guess I would have broken up with Kewpie Doll at the beginning of the summer rather than waiting until the end, but I'm not sorry I didn't.

40) What are your plans for 2006?
2006 is gearing up to be one hell of a year. In June I graduate from college and leave behind all of the friends I have made over the last four years. Then, at the end of the summer, I will (hopefully) be moving to a completely new city where I know no one in order to begin law school. It's going to be hard and it's going to be scary, but I also think it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun.

Holy Shit

I just realized something while reading up on the history of contraception (for a paper):

If a woman never has sex while menstruating, that's SIXTY days out of the year that she's completely ruling out sex. That's a sixth of the year, and that's only if her period lasts no more than five days! That's nuts!

I'm not saying I want to have sex 365 days a year, but most men do. It's strange, then, that it's their attitude toward menstruation (plus cramps!) that keeps them from even having the chance of getting their rocks off one out of every six days.

*Sigh*

So much for my promise (to myself, of course) that I'd stop talking about menstruation so damn much.

The List

So I have officially decided where I'm applying to law school. The final list is:

1. American University
2. Boston College
3. Boston University
4. University of Cincinnati
5. University of Connecticut
6. George Washington University
7. New York University (even though I KNOW I won't get in)
8. Temple University
9. Vanderbilt University

There you have it, folks. My first choice is obviously NYU, but unless they have a major computer meltdown or something, I'm not getting in... but you can't blame me for holding out for that major computer meltdown. My first REAL choice is Boston University, but none of them would really suck... except for maybe Cincinnati, but everyone's got to have a back up plan.

93. Met Someone: Yesterday I didn't get up until 3. Not much time for meeting people.
94. Moved On: I didn't realize there was anything from which I needed to move on. Although, I did help My Kewpie Doll start to move on from me.
95. Talked To Someone: I may be a recluse, but even I'm not THAT bad.
96. Had A Serious Talk: Way too serious, if you ask me.
97. Kissed someone: Sadly, no.
98. Hugged Someone: Yes.
99. Yelled at Someone: No - but I did write a rather nasty evaluation of one of my professors the other day.. it made me feel really good inside.
100. Dreamed About Someone You Can't Be With: Yes - my grandparents. Or rather, their house. I really need to get back there.

Surprise!

Okay, so I purposely left the last post up for a while in the hopes that someone would respond, but no one really did, so I guess I'll just have to move on. I suppose that's what I get for being such an inconsistent blogger.

Thursday when I came home from class I excitedly checked the mail - as I always do. The mailbox has always held a certain element of mystery to me, and so every time I get to it while there's still mail in it I get very over eager.

This day there were three pieces of mail in it, and they were all for me. This was not unusual, as I'm applying to law school, and so I get mail all the time. However, every single one of them was from someone I actually know, and it made not only my day and my week, but perhaps my entire month.

The first envelope contained a check for $460 (my allowance plus bills) with a 3 x 5 index card that said "Enjoy! Love, Dad." The second was a letter from Best Friend that I had been waiting on for almost a month. She is living in D.C. this quarter and I sent her one over a month ago and had yet to hear any response. And the third, best of all, was an honest to god love letter - the first I (or anyone else I know) has ever gotten.

Some of my favorite lines:

"You are the expression of magic in this world, a stark reminder that deepest beauty is forged from sorrow, like a tear drop captured by moonlight."

"You are the rarest of treasures, beautiful among the ugly and more beautiful still next to those adorned with diamonds and gold."

Part of me wants to share the entire letter, but most of me is very possessive of it. A good portion of the letter exposes vulnerability in the person who wrote it, and so not only do I want to keep such poetry to myself, I do not want to exploit the writer of my first love letter. Of course, the other part of me wants to show it to everyone I know and exclaim, "Look at how highly another person thinks of me!!!"

In order to understand how much this letter impacted me, one must understand my passion for the written - NOT typed - word. Ever since my Dad gave me my mother's diaries (all handwritten) I have found anything typewritten to be a terribly inadaquate form of expression - which partially explains my inconsistent blogging. I love a real letter more than almost anything in the entire world, and an honest-to-god-classic-novel love letter... well, there are no words to express how strongly this affected me.

You may be thinking, "But you're single. Who would be writing you such a poetically beautiful love letter?" This is where the surprise comes in. The author was none other than Angel Juan.

Put that in your pipe and comment on it.
